Custom field in "Leads" not converting in "Accounts"

I have made a custom field in Leads (SIC code). I now realize that there is a SIC code field in Accounts.

What I would like to do is use the same field that is in Accounts and add it to the Lead form. Apparently I can not do that, hence the custom field.

I have thousands of leads I need to import, and the SIC classification is very important to the process. How can I ensure the SIC is imported into Leads and then when there is a conversion to Accounts, that it carries over?

Any help is VERY much appreciated.

Hi avb3, though I've not personally done this, I have it on good authority that a custom field in Lead will map to a custom field in Account provided that the custom field is named exactly the same in both.

Give it a go and let us know.
