Custom field - "relate" data type

I'm starting with SugarCRM CE 6.1. I"ve created custom field with data type "relate" (to be exact I added Contact field in Opprtunities, related to Contacts)
When I edit this field, I can select Contact Name from Contacts, it's O.K. in ListView, DetailView...
But if I try to use it in Search, it doesn't work. Using AlineaSol Reports 1.9 I see in list of usable fileds only contacts_id_c (i.e. id of record from Contacts). Is this standard way how "related" field works or I did something wrong?
How can I achieve to see the Contact Name in Search and Reports, not only id?
