Unhappy Custom Fields in Module Cases

I have set up custom fields in Accounts and Leads, and they work without a problem.

I'm having issues with creating custom fields in Cases.

They show up in the case_cstm table as a column. They also show up fine in the detail and edit.

However while the field exists, if you populate it with data it won't save.

I tried making it a required field, and SugarCRM does make me enter info into the field, but it does not save.

The first time that I noticed that those module's custom fields were not working I deleted them and re created them.

    This did not help.

I then repaired the database and did a quick repair and rebuild.

    That did not help.

I've turned on debugging and see no errors that come up when I make an update to a case with custom fields-- however I have noticed that there are no custom table joins when making the update.

    Any ideas?

Which environment do you have? linux?
Then you MUST set the rights of the whole Sugar directory, including the root directory itself with

    chmod -R 775 <sugar-root-dir>

    to 775.

If this is not set, Sugar cannot create new dirtectories.
