Exclamation Custom fields not being populated in 5.0

When I create a custom drop down (or multi select) in 5.0, I am seeing the field appear on my Layout but there is no data shown. Where are the values for these stored?
For my old custom fields (any type) in 4.5.1 I can still see the values in the database but am not seeing the fields themselves in the Layouts, even after re-adding them and publishing again in Studio.
Can someone tell me what changed between 4.5.1 and 5.0 so I can figure out why the data is not appearing?

    Could someone PLEASE respond!!!!
Here's the situation. I had issues with my 4.5.1 install (it wouldn't upgrade correctly through the versions). I did a fresh install of 5.0, pointed at the 4.5.1 database, copied over the Cache and Custom directories and ran the various repairs under admin (this was all per instructions from Sugar). I stil had to manually make changes to link up emails and email addresses in the new schema and that's fine now, but I cannot get custom fileds to work.
I did a separate install of 5.0 to compare and when I add a new Dropdown field to a Module, in the fresh 5.0 install i see"
    • Data Type: Dropdown
    • Field name:
    • Display Name:
    • System name:
    • Help text:
    • Comment Text:
    • Drop Down List: (list of fields)
    • [Edit][Add] buttons
    • Default Value: (List of values depending on Drop Down list value)
    • Mass Update:
    • Required Field:
    • Audit:
    • Duplicate Merged:

In my "converted" 5.0 version I see:
    • Data Type: Dropdown
    • Field name:
    • System name:
    • Help text:
    • Drop Down List: (list of fields)
    • Default Value: (This is always blank)
    • Mass Update:
    • Required Field:
    • Audit:
    • Duplicate Merged:

What do i need to replace in my version to get this back to fresh where I can re-add my custom fields?
This is affecting our system greatly so I would REALLY appreciate someone helping me out here.

    Hi Stoneware,
I wish my brain went back that far. there were so many problems with the upgrade I can't remember exactly what I did to fix each. I seem to remember having to do a clean install of 5.0 and then bring the DB and Cache over manually but leaving out the custom stuff, then recreating it from scratch. If you still have your 4.5.1 install you could try the export of your custom fields and then import into 5.0. I never tried that but i read after that it does work. Good luck.
    Cheers...
    Dave
