Custom Module - Build or modify?

Hi, I need to builsd a simple module for tracking vehicles in each of the accounts.
I was thinking about building a new module but didnt have any luck either with module builder and my skills and time are limited.
As I am not using the bug module, do you think that modifying that module (thus having solved integration problems and, i hope, upgrades ) would be a easies and safer route?

someone suggested me that I should duplicate a module that fits my needs better (contacts maybe) and modify it, but Im afraid of module installing, reinstalling, backups, upgrades etc.

any recommendation?

Hi, I already customized a module (Bugs module) and is working ok, still have to fine tune a lot, but it is usable.
my question is, how can I export from my developement install and install in my production server?

by the way, sugar studio is SO much better in 4.5!!!!!

last question, in bugs module I cannot assign the bug to an acount. the accounts field just don't appear. is there any way to bring it?

Alejandro,

It is better to build modules. Start with an extremely simple module with two fields (name, description). Then expand it to include relationships and so on. Once you understand what each of the required files does, it is actually pretty fast and easy to develop modules.

Modifying modules will create confusion and problems during upgrades.
