    Default Customizing

I am a newbie. I have the SugarCRM 4.2.0d running well. I will be using the system initially primarily for support. I need to be able to connect customers to the products they have ordered so that I can choose the product serial number they are calling about. I need to track the products which a customer has ordered and bring it up in the customer's details. My initial thought is that I can create a "custom field" in the customers table/view that links to the "products" which a customer has purchased through their "orders".

Is this something that is already done somewhere and I just havent' figured out how to use it yet?

    or

Where is a good guide on how to make "custom fields" to add the data column necessary for "products"

    or

Do I need to purchase another version to get support for "products"?

    Thanks in advance,

    Matt.

Info At Hand is a business management system built on top of SugarCRM that offers an advanced product catalog, and suported products linked to support cases, and to accounts. It might be of interest to you.

    Talking Re: Customizing

Info @ Hand looks like a good piece of software. Unfortunately I'm not sure if my manager would buy off on the amount per head. I will try out the trial version and see what it looks like. Right now I am fighting ACT8 from the sales dept. and am hoping to beat out with price.

All I need at this point is these couple of additional pieces of data stored to get the attention of the sales and support dept.
