Dates in Notification Emails Incorrect

I'm having a problem wherein anytime a notification email is sent out from the SugarCRM system, it contains incorrect date/time information. Often it is simply the UNIX date/time equivalent of 0 (1/1/1969 or something like that). I've done a lot of development in PHP before, and I feel like I could probably figure out the problem if I could get to the right source code. Unfortunately I'm having trouble understanding the directory structure, and I would appreciate it if someone would tell me where the actual email to be sent out is generated (say, for a meeting notification). Also, if you've encountered this situation before and know an easy way to fix it I'd appreciate that too!

ditto here..i am using 4.2.1b and the dates in the notification emails were displayed as Aug 28, 2014 for a meeting that was scheduled for today ... the date in the system is correct, however. Would love to have a patch for this, or even a quick code snippet that I could paste in to wherever..! thanks
BTW me and my clients LOVE this app...
