Default value for multiselect custom field

I am trying out SugarCRM via the free trial. I have added a custom multi-select field. I would like to REQUIRE that the user select at least one value. However, I would like the field to default to BLANK (none selected), where blank is not a valid value. The point is to force the user to consciously select something. How do I do this?

Next question is: I would like to add the same custom field to the Lead and Contact modules. Is there a quick way to do this? When a Lead is converted to a Contact, I would like the value to flow through from the Lead to the Contact.

Can you pelase elt me know how you have added Custom Multiselect box. I amf acing a few challenges there.
A Textbox that should allow multi selection.
All the values selected should be saved in the same attribute with delimiters ("," in our case).
