Delete via massupdate vs Delete from DetailView

Hey All,
I have just discovered that while clicking delete button in massupdate in ListView marks a record as Deleted,
clicking the Delete button from the DetailView DELETES the record in its entirety.

As we are synchronizing mirror dbs on tablets in the field, it is imperative that the records
be marked as Deleted, with a date_modified stamp of now(), else a record DELETED on a
given field db, is only replaced upon sync with the host db.
Not clear on the difference. How might one revise? (Emails mod in particular)

My understanding is that Sugar NEVER deletes a record, it only marks it as deleted which removes it from the query.

Well Joe, that was my understanding too, until -- much to my surprise -- I discovered that -- in the
instance described above at least -- it ain't necessarily so.

Admittedly, I am still working under OS 4.0.1f,
so I can't speak to later versions, but...

I wrote a work around for it in Emails DetailView et al
