Default cannot view a CUSTOM FIELD in leads.

    hi,

My install is a rsync upgraded to 4.5 f running on vmware.

My problem is that I cannot see the custom fields in the leads module. I have added custom fields( studio) and then I go to the leads module> create new lead and none of the custom fields are there.

I can import leads CSV> map the headers to the custom fields, they show up.

If I delete that names field in studio it still shows up in the create and import. I reboot log out everything in admin and still no go. what can I do to fix this problem?

I have a feeling this may be permissions but I am stuck on the command line with the rsync install and dont want to do a blanket chmod 777 on everything.

custom lead fields do not show up when in leads- create leads. only when I import CSV.

How do I get them to show up?

Why don't you search the forum for "studio fields"
And read up on things to familiarize yourself and possibly even find some solutions that might work for you..

In general, many (including us, and myself personally) have had trouble with Studio, custom fields, or a combination of the two.

thank you for the guidance- but sugar does not support adding custom fields out of the box. This is not in the Documentation, sales lit, or whatever.

and yes I have searched the forums- and have found many of the same questions unanswered, a big help indeed.

it seems anyone who is in sales and wants a crm that propagates fields across modules and where you can add leads to a customized form without having to import them are out of luck- out of the box anyway.

so by replying to your helpful and informative post others can find this post and know that they cannot do any of these things out of the box.

I'm gonna be nice, heres two threads in which are some posts of mine that you'll want to study..
    http://www.sugarcrm.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17322
    http://www.sugarcrm.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17852

I think that I'm the only one who has ever posted all the locations of where things are stored [in regards to such custom fields]. One of those two threads has my post with those details.

I WILL TELL YOU and can GUARANTEE YOU that you ARE able to manually correct/fix the f*@#!d up custom fields...

But before you ask me what, where, and how... Lemme save you the trouble.

    A) I don't remember every detail off the top of my head, and would require me spending time [in which I don't have to give away] to dig out and fumble through binders as my work and my family are a little higher priority for me.

    B) If you really want it that badly then dig out one or more of your credit cards, and I'll be more than glad to not only fix/resolve your troubles, but like everything I touch, I'll take it to a whole new level.. And that level will be me actually TEACHING YOU how to fix it, modify it, and/or customize it, all on YOUR OWN from that point on.

    Yes it does.

This I don't know, and am not spending the time to go persuse Sugar literature/documentation.
IF creating custom fields and/or the ability to do such is not documented by Sugar in their sugar documentation or manuals, then I'd say 'it isn't needed'.

Spending just a few minutes browsing through SugarCRM and the various links, buttons, or screens in which are available... It wouldn't take but a few minutes before a person discovers such ability.. It' stands out pretty loud and clear, at least in my minds memory..
Something like "create custom field(s)" along with text box inputs for field name and lots of other field properties, and even a screen/page which lists all (if any) of you custom fields and their individual properties, etc..

No ya haven't [searched the forums AND read all applicable threads or posts].
So hit the search engine again..

I' know that I've shared quite a bit of details [here & there] regarding Studio, custom fields, and related, in the past.. Thus you have the ability to search for posts by user, such as myself, in which you could go back through and read all previous posts to date..

Success for you is nothing more than time and effort, thus success is well within reach.

And this is coming from one of [I'm quite sure] a very very limited few whom have been able to overcome/fix/solve/etc. the Studio and/or Custom Fields troubles.

That is, if someone would call it a 'fix'.. As we have not actually identified nor fixed, whatever bug or other thing is responsible for creating and causing the troubles..
For analogies, it makes me think of a flat tire.. A person is not actually able to fix the tire, rather they resolve the situation with some work/effort, changes (new and different tire), etc. Ultimately, it results in returning to the same 'state' (ie a drivable vehicle) as prior to the troubles..

Thank you for you insight you seem very knowledgeable about coding and soforth. Its not even a question of money per se but quality and the ability to do business more effectively. with a customization or a "hack" it is an add on piece of code that is not in the core of the program. therefore, if you customize this for whatever amount, you are bound to the programmer of that custom work to upkeep and upgrade that work as new editions are out.

so the pay once and forget about it is not really a good way to look at it.
    I can see why and how a CRM affects the way you write business- the most common sale flow is like this;

identify leads> qualify leads with certain parameters specific to business>add leads to CRM or delete unqualified leads or just leave them in CRM> move qualified leads to sales or marketing mail out or telemark> keep record of contact and addition of info thru lead cycle> make mulitiple contacts to leads at different times> hopefully move lead to an account keeping all contact info and the qualified parameters to the account side>then service and repete with an addon or whatever and back into the lead cycle again keeping the history of the customer.

I like sugar, it is great but has serious shortcomings, in the way it writes B2B. just because this is "free" doesn't mean it is, I have to pay someone even if it is myself to work and upkeep the product. I would buy this in a second if it wrote business like the way above, out of the box. So I am forced to look at alternatives like maximizer or act.

In Business there are no free moves. In business the only thing that counts is profit. If you cannot write business in a way that will help and follows some business model you are doomed to failure. At minimum you need to keep a history of your contact with a lead and have that customized info flow thru the CRM system seamlessly.
