    Default Description Information Field

    Complete noob here.

Installed SugarCRM, imported data and added notes in the "Description Information" field that opens up when a record is in "edit" mode. However, the information placed in the "Description Information" field does not appear when the record is in regular view mode (not edit mode).
What do I need to do to get the Description Information notes to appear in regular record view?

    Many thanks for the help.

    Hi,

Check in admin, studio that the Detial view for the module has the description field.

I'm still learning this as well. But here is an overview.

In Sugar you have two views (actually three) but two important ones to your issue. The list view is for searches. The edit view shows the feilds to be editted. The detail view shows the fields to be displayed when that record is selected. The edit and detail views do NOT have to be the same. for instance you may want to enter a start date for something but don't really need it to appear for someone viewing the data.

I would suggest you take a close look at the Sugar Wiki as it has lots of info about this and more.

    Best wishes,

    Paris

    Thanks, Paris!

Your directions turned on the light and all is working as planned.

cadavera01z and ptemplin7, can you comment on this capability? That is, having a field in DetailView possibly appear in a different place in the EditView, and thus having to establish the same field in each.

We have had some arguments about this inside the hallways here in Sugarland. I'm of the mind that nobody will change a field's position on the screen just because they're editing it versus viewing it.

    Thoughts?

    Post Re: Description Information Field

    Hi Andy,

My customer is customizing Sugar to better reflect the service industry they are in. As such there is information that should be in the editing field but not in the detail and visa-versa.

On obvious is the last modified and system like fields. We don't want the user editing those. It would be nice to not have to duplicate the fields for both editing and details. Also a way to customize the fields and have them link to others would be nice, instead of working editing the php files and adding things to the vardefs and others.

I can see having things different especially in certain cases where someone is entering from a form but the display would need to be different for regular use. I wonder if it wouldn't be nice to have the option of having the detials and edit view seperate AND have it such that they are the same! Hence customizing only one screen.

Anyway that's my two cents. Any suggestions for customiztion of variables!

    Thanks Paris
