The difference between "contact" and "account"?

I'm confuse "contact" and "account". which is first created?

Contacts are the people who work for those companies

I'm thank you so much. I'm try to clearly my question.

"Accounts Module": An account contains your customer information

"Contacts Module": A contact is any individual who is a valid sales lead

I want to know "when can i create an account" or "when can i create an contact"?
Because "You can associate a contact with any record such as an account" and account too.

Which was created first? Account or Contact?
