Hello,
I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the difference is between an email and newsletter campaign.
What does frequency do? Does it do anything or does it just look pretty?
Kind regards,
YlinYlan

Hi all, the fundamental difference between newsletters and standard email marketing campaigns is that newsletters permit subscription management to occur outside the Campaign Management module itself.
For instance, in the Sugar Profressional edition you can manage the subscriptions for a Contact and, more importantly, allow a portal visitor to manage subscriptions for him or herself.
I believe that the Frequency field is notational only and appears as descriptive information on the portal (e.g., "Subscribe to X (Weekly)").
I'll pass along your comments re: documentation.

Hi:
In an Email campaign, you send out a one-time email with the information that is of interest to your targets. In a newsletter campaign, you email a newsletter to your targets on a regular basis. For example, a newsletter can contain product updates, new products and new features. You can send out a newsletter on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, or yearly basis.
Hope this answers your question.
Hey, thanks for the replies.
I understand the difference between emails and newsletter campaigns. I just didn't know if frequency did anything or not. The answer seems to be "not".
Appreciate it!

No. It still does not answer that what does this setting DO. Does it send out campaign mails automatically after selected interval ? Or what ?. If I set it from quarterly to weekly, what changes ? What does it DO in the system ? Or does it anything ?
The other thing is "Status" What happens if I switch it to Inactive ? Do I ever ever again have chance to activate & reschedule it ? Does campaign status window log hits anymore etc etc... ?

Hello
No, it is more for internal purposes. You still need to manually create the new email marketing item and manually click the button to send it out.Does it send out campaign mails automatically after selected interval ?
No, this does not do anything except change the value of the dropdown. If I set it from quarterly to weekly, what changes ? What does it DO in the system ? Or does it anything ?
The status dropdown that appears in the main campaign page is for internal purposes only. It has no effect on whether or not the campaign goes out."Status" What happens if I switch it to Inactive ? Do I ever ever again have chance to activate & reschedule it ? Does campaign status window log hits anymore etc etc... ?
The status field in the email marketing section (active or inactive) does affect whether the campaign goes out, so you want to make sure this is set to 'Active' when you send it out.

OK,
Thanks for the information, sugarcane. These are just things one should be pretty sure of.... Wouldn't care causing extra conflicts with customers caused by some fancy systems automatically spamming them![]()
