Differences between Users module and other modules

I have successfully made numerous changes to our CE 6.2 CRM, using the approach of customizing copies of the files found in /modules/<module> directory and placing them in the /custom/modules/<module> directory. I am now adding a new field to the Users module, and although the other files I place in the custom folder correctly override the defaults, for some reason only changes I make to "DetailView.tpl" in the original directory take effect; the copy I made in the custom directory seems to be ignored. I am doing a repair, and in addition I have tried turning developer mode on.

Is anyone aware of why this may be the case?

in the custom view point to your custom smarty template not original and it will work.
