Different Browsers and dropdowns

I have an interesting problem (or rather my users do).

When you start to type over a select field, you get the dropdown list as Sugar tries to guess the answer you want.

So far, so good. In Firefox all is well, and you can type and the dropdown list appears below the field you are typing into.

However in IE the dropdown list appears over the field you are typing into, causing the user to think they've selected the first item on the list, even though they have not!

This is leading to much confusion and cursing in the organisation, as you can imagine.

Other than suggesting FF for Sugar, does anyone else have this issue, and does anyone know of a fix?

What version of IE you are using?
I´m scary about playing SugarCRM under IE.
Not because SugarCRM itself, but because IE, which only works under some stupid and specific javascript coding.

We are on IE8.

Enable javascript debugging on IE, then try again.
Hopefully you will see some javascript error message.
