Different modules of same TYPE per user role, permission

Hello, all -

I'll be offering SugarCRM to a lot of people who... well, I'll just say that they'll get easily confused by all the bells and whistles. Sure, SugarCRM has a TON of features (Which *I* personally enjoy), but a lot of those features might just scare someone away, right?

I was wondering if I could implement specific modules based on roles that I define. I'm talking like an Administrator having full access to each element and field under a module such as Contacts, Accounts, Leads etc etc, but being able to modify those fields (i.e. remove them from being displayed, updated etc etc) for an unprivileged users.

I'm expecting at worst to have to maintain two different modules, but I can't think of any other inhibitor to this working.

Anyone mind explaining any experiences you've had attempting something like using different modules of the same TYPE depending on user roles and/or permissions? Better yet, mind playing Devil's Advocate for me, as to why this might get hairy real quick?

Hi Dant

The flavors PRO and ENT of the SugarCRM 5.* has the feature field level security which enable the Admin to restrict access to some fields depending on the role of a specific user.
I believe this fits your needs.

That's what I figured, however, I thought I'd ask.

It looks like we're going to move towards using Professional very shortly, as it provides too many features that we just can't write ourselves at this point.

Your thoughts is a good one!
Sometimes the cost to implement some PRO/ENT features in the CE flavors is not viable and it introduce non-upgrade safe customization.
