Do not understand assigning teams to leads

Hey everyone:

I am confused about setting up leads in sugarCRM. I have created a new lead and assigned it to a user, but if I do not assign it to a team, the user does not see their lead.

Can you tell me if this is by design or is there a problem with our installation of Sugar? I have inherited this project that someone else set up originally, and I didn't find anything in the documentation explaining this.

In Sugar PRO, every entry in the system is tied to a user and a team. The team may be the users "private" team, it may be the "global" team (everybody can see it) or you may have teams based on sales groups or regions or some other parameters. Another team idea where you want a lead to be confidential to the sales rep it is assigned to is to have teams made up of the sales manager and the sales rep. That way only those two people can see the lead. This type of team allows information security but still allows the manager to do his/her job.

Nothing in the system can be assigned without assigning a "team".
