Default Does archiving emails improve POP3 Inbound Email performance?

Does archiving emails reduce the number of emails Sugar has to dupe check when polling for new emails?

My company uses a POP3 mailbox, with "Leave Messages On Server" option checked. Consequentially, Inbound Email is EXTREMELY slow in polling for new emails. Does archiving emails remove them from the Sugar inbox altogether? (Thus limiting the number of emails Sugar has to dupe check using POP3 protocol.)

The answer seems obvious, but not everything functions logically. Neither Sugar wiki nor forums mention this...

    Thanks very much in advance.
