Double permission - may I ask?

Can sugar be tweaked to make some kind of "double opt-in" system? I know one can make a web-to-lead form etc..., but the double opt-in is apparently the the best way to handle subscribers to one's newsletters, etc.... Thanks for any advice on the subject.

I don't think there currently is a opt-in feature in SugarCRM, only opt-out.

Both the opt-in and the second confirmation may be better placed in a front-end app in my opinion.

Front end? Do you mean a page of my site where one clicks to subscribe THEN goes to the Sugar generated web-to-lead form? That would indeed require "double" action sort of. What I refer to is a system that automatically generates an e-mail to the subscriber saying something like "...your e-mail address was signed up, please click here to confirm subscription..." etc. This may be done manually of course, but who wants to do this manually? Online services such as list servers (e.g. MailChimp, Great Big News) have such a system, but it's redundant to use such things when you've got SugarCRM in place.

Note to Sugar staff reading this: what an awsome feature this would be! It could be a competitive edge over other CRMs.
