Dropdown containing active users

I've just installed a vanilla 5.2.0e sugar instance and I am wanting to have a dropdown that contains all active users. It is specifically for the cases module, but would be nice to be able to use it globally. In the past, we had to manually update the dropdown we were using, but I would like to have a method that just shows active employees (or even all employees) automatically. I'm not a programmer, so if its a javascript, php thing, please be explicit in your instructions. I really appreciate your help in advance. Thanks,

is there a reason you are not using the Assign To field? By default, when you click the 'Select' button, it will only display active users.

I wish I could just duplicate the assigned to field actually....Its just a separate reporting field. We need to know who created the case, for instance, not just who it is assigned to...Make sense? So basically I need to duplicate the assigned to popup or have a dropdown that does the same thing...

Actually, the system stores who created the record. You should notice a 'Created By' field displayed in the Case detail view. If you are using Pro or Ent, you can pull the created by field into a report, as well as the Assign to field.

If you are using CE, you can also pull the created by field into a query.

You can also add the created by field into the case list view if you want using Studio

I am using the open source CE version. In the list view in cases I see Creted By as a hidden field, great. But, created by is not an option in the other views. In detail view, for example, created by is not in the default layout and it is not a field in the toolbox which I can bring into the layout?

what you are looking for is implemented within 15 to 30min (if it is only to add another field with a user that is a relate field for active users). Total effort 1 to 2 hopurs including testing and putting it into your production environment.

I doubt you can handle thsi with Studio and standard sugar tools. Easiest is to do this in PHP as extension to the modules (upgrade safe and nicely done).
