E-Mail Template Variables

Hi All,

As far as i am aware you can add as many variables into an e-mail template as required, however i want to get the case number into the body of the mail automatically, using a variable i presume.
Iv tried to enter

$case_case_number
$cases_case_number

Neither get the case number into the e-mail it just says the string ($case_case_number).

Any Ideas?
