While sending an email to lead/case there is one option for selecting the email template. So first create the email template then use it.

Thanks for your quick responce, i already created my templete but i can not find any option or function which will enable me to send the pre-wriiten templetes to my leads

if you want to send to more than one. the use campaign. if you want to send to a singular person then underneath bu activities is email.

I need to create a email button in detail view of custom module to send out email to the person for whom the record is being created...i tried using the mail() function but hasn't been able to make it work...do u have any insight on this?

Lead detail page => Compose Email (in the subpanel) => Then there is double angle bracekt (<<) at right, click this. Then you find the Template dropdown.
