email account setup, sugarcrm 5e: Connection failed

I have a new setup of SugarCRM 5.0.0e Community on Solaris 5.10 (sparc) and when I try setting up a mail account and click Test Settings, I get the message:

Connection failed to mail.myserver.com,993: Connection timed out

Please check your settings and try again.

I know all the settings are right, I can telnet to the mail server and am also using a mail client with the same settings. Here is the sugarcrm.log debug entry:

I installed SugarCRM with the FastStack Solaris Sparc Installer 5.0.0e, so I'm sure all the php settings are correct.

What's installed is: php 5.2.5, apache 2.0.59, mysql 5.0.37

This is what php is compiled with:

I'm getting a similar error message. The test feature can connect to the mail server, but it complains about the certificate.

It seems that SugarCRM simply won't work with self-signed certificates assuming that they are less secure, which of course is not the case. Maybe there's a configuration setting that will disable this sort of check, but I'm not sure.

After many hours over weeks of trying to locate solutions for personal IU Mail in 5.0.0e and 5.1.0 I have concluded that this feature is not stable. I have sought input from numerous posts on this forum and none have solved the problem of a personal email setup in IU Email setup of not being able to open emails. The emails download fine but when they are opened only reveals subject of "message removed from server". In fact the message has not been removed from server. This is a flaw in 5.0.0e and 5.1.0 that I have evaluated. I regressed to version 4.5.1 and all works fine. I am writing this to assist others should they be struggling with same issue so that they may not waist the many hours that I have to discover that versions 5.0.0e and 5.1.0 are not usable for personal emails.

Hi Ive gone through a few other threads outside of sugar. The one problem was a bug with php but that was sorted in php 5.2 the other problem was that you sugar hosting server may be blocking connections on port 995 for secure ssl. Let me know if you get sorted. because i have the same problem. just dont have time to fix it today

been playing with this problem this afternoon, and appear to have solved it - well, at least, the "Test" worked. I resigned the cert on Courier with my own hostname instead of localhost as the CN, and it was still failing. Then .. i looked at the mail server and realised one feature of Courier - you can't connect to an empty mailbox.Sent an email to the mailbox I was testing from a different account, reset Sugar to make sure it was using SSL, and it started working.

I ran into the same problem.

I assume, the missing --with-imap-ssl module is the problem (on my server php is compiled with imap non-ssl only).

To establish a non-SSL connection I was required to apply the hack mentioned in this thread: http://www.sugarcrm.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24510

Is there any chance this gets fixed in a future version?
I heard it was also possible to connect through SSL withtout having the '--with-imap-ssl' module compiled... Does anyon have information on that?
