Default Email, module and search problems

I have just installed SugarCRM onto a Godaddy Linux VD server running CentOS release 5.5.

    My problems are three-fold...

First, I cannot get outbound email to function. Inbound works great but outbound either goes into never, never land or comes back with a server settings error. We are using an Exchange server, we've checked with IT and the port is open.

Second problem is installing modules. I can upload the module zip files. However, when I attempt to install I get the following.... at exactly 13% each time, regardless of module that I'm installing....

Failed to copy /home/gcorns/public_html/cache/upload/upgrades/temp/2HnYTL/include/SugarFields/Fields/FRPDFButton to include/SugarFields/Fields/FRPDFButton

I've attempted to adjust permissions but cannot seem to find the right combination in order to correct this.

Finally I am having a search issue. If I search for anything from the general search box in the upper right hand corner, I get no results. I've search for names, etc... that I know are valid. I can, however, go into advanced search within a module and it finds the same name with no problem.

I'm new with SugarCRM and Linux as I am a designer/marketer by trade... any help you can provide is greatly appreciated!!

    Hello,

I believe if you sort out the permission issues, you will solve almost all of the problems you have specified. Try following steps mentioned here.

I am also having trouble with the search function - running Version 6.2.0beta5 (Build 6296) on Ubuntu 10.04, PHP 5.3.2-1ubuntu4.8 with Suhosin-Patch, using Amazon RDS for MySQL database.

I have noticed that the global search works at the beginning of an account name - if I have an account named "John Smith", the global search finds that account if I search for "John", but not for "Smith".

I have tried repairing via the Admin menu without improvement. As far as I can tell, file permissions are correct, and the memory max size in php.ini is set to 128M which is hopefully sufficient.

Ok, I found an older message that suggests adding wildcards - "%smith%" to the search term. Works for me. Will go hunting for a way to turn that on by default.

Okay.. I continue to have problems on these three items.... I've tried to check permissions. On some items, when I adjust permissions, our database screen goes blank on refresh. So I revert. A tedious process at best. While this is a new database we already have over 1000 contacts in it. If it were not for that, I would delete it all and start over. My frustration level is HIGH! We can't email from Sugar, I cannot load any modules, Search has limited capabilities and in trying to change the layout using Studio this morning, the changes do not stick. I add a field, save and it reverts back.

Thanks for any suggestions or advice. Sugar seems to be a great CRM solution but if I can't work out these final few items I'm not sure how effective it will be for us. I know it is a simple setting but I cannot seem to find the magic combination.
