Email Module Version 5.0.0b (Build 3150)

I'm running a very customized version of Version 5.0.0b (Build 3150). Problem is that a lot of the built-in email editor doesn't work correctly, lots of bugs, etc. I've downloaded a recent version 5.2.0 and the email edit works GREAT.

The question I have is can I just swap out my old email module and drop in the new one or will this effect all the code application-wide? The consulting company we paid to do the customization says the email bugs are SugarCRMs and refuse to fix them for the included already paid fee. If we want them fixed they'll charge us something like $300.00, which I'm guessing they'll just dump in the updated email editor from 5.2.0.

Any help would be appreciate it.
