Email Notifications Format Issue & Question

I recently noticed that the email notifications that are being sent out by SugarCRM CE v5.2 are formatted in a way that causes problems for some email clients (view link issues). In particular, the URLs formatted with less than and greater than characters seem to be causing issues with the SugarCRM email client. Perhaps is because of some setting I have turned on in the email client settings?

Why are the less than and greater than symbols used? Is it safe to remove them from the template?

When I view the email thru the SugarCRM Email module view, I see this which isn't the correct link.

Well...I guess it's nothing to worry about... I removed the greater than and less than symbols.
