[email] Read email in gmail appears as unread in SugarCRM.

When I receive an new email, it appears as unread in the INBOX of my external mail account in SugarCRM.

If I then go to gmail's interface and mark it read there, it still appears as unread in SugarCRM's INBOX, even if I press the "check mail" button. Isn't it supposed to be marked read in the CRM interface, like in gmail? Isn't that what IMAP is all about?

We are having the opposite problem. As soon as emails are sent to Sugar by the cronjob, they are marked as read in Gmail, even if no one has looked at them in Sugar.

SugarCRM does a terrible job keeping gmail and Sugar in sync.

Try an other open source CRM. I found that v-t-i-g-e-r does an excellent job at this. This is one of the reasons why I made the switch to v-t-i-g-e-r.
