    Default Email Sent Folder Disappears

    Hi All,

We have not used EMails module so far, so I am trying to set that up. When I setup two accounts and send test messages between them, I see the Sent folder and it contains the message sent. The next time a login, there is no Sent folder shown even if I send a new message.

Any ideas why the sent folder is disappearing?

Also, in testing messages, the message is downloaded to Sugar, but left on the server so I can then download the same message from another email client. I don't see any setting for "leave on server". Is there any setting that controls this feature?

    We're on Version 5.2.0f

    Thanks

    Phil

Default Re: Email Sent Folder Disappears

    Hi all,

Here's an update of what I figured out.

First, I had some fundamental misunderstandings of the Email client and how it works. Here's a reference that helped (a little) to explain it:

    http://developers.sugarcrm.com/wordp...mail-in-sugar/

But it still missed some fundamental explanations for people like me who are used to the old style Outlook / Outlook Express download style of interface. So here are some *very* basic explanations that I could not find directly stated anywhere. Anyone who already understood this would probably say "Yeah. Of course", but if you don't get this nothing else will make sense (so please, no "Duh!" comments from the peanut gallery :

The SugarCRM Email Client is first a web client providing a view into your POP3 or IMAP server. The INBOX folder provides a view into messages, but they are still stored on your POP3 or IMAP server. If you open an email in INBOX then click the Delete button, it is deleted from the server.

This is very different than the Outlook model where a checkbox option controls whether a copy of the message is left on the server when messages are downloaded. In that model, when you delete a message, you are deleting your local copy and with default settings, when you check messages, you remove them from the server as they are downloaded.

The SugarCRM Email Client also provides a view of emails that have been imported into Sugar. Open a message in the INBOX and there is an "Import to Sugar" button. Only when this button is clicked is the actual message downloaded and saved on your Sugar server. The button also allows you assign and relate the email to Sugar modules.

The Settings button includes options that let you select folders to show including your "My Sent Email" folder. Unfortunately the "My..." folders seem to be hidden by default and on closing and re-opening Sugar you have to go back into Settings to show them.

Anyway, I hope this helps someone else slow on the pick up like me.

    Phil
