    Question Email settings (Campaigns)

I am new to Sugar. I have read and re read everything I can lay my hands on to help setup email in preparation for a marketing campaign but I am lacking some basic understanding about what is required. I assume that Sugar can use my SMTP settings to send outbound email. Is there a way that I can test that these settings are correct and that they are working? The wizard also asks for bounce back email and then wants me to create an account. Can someone explain this please? Does n't the account I send from get returned mail?

Hard to believe I am having to ask these questions having just been product manager for a 2 year email project!

You can check if you have an email account in admin->Inbound Email. In edit view you can check if your settings are good.

If it's not the case, create one and use it for you campaign. You have to set "possible actions" to "Bounce Handling".

    I hope that will work.

You should read the documentation more carefully.

Particularly pay attention to the section about setting up bounce email accounts without which your campaign will not work correctly.

    RTFM I'm afraid.

The above link will take you to the relevant documentation for release 5.0

    Hello,

The link salesagility has provided is very good and covers all the email settings:

    1. Populate the Outbound Email settings in the Admin area. To test to see if you entered the correct information, simply try to send an email from the email module after you have populated and saved this information

    2. Create an inbound email bounce box in the Admin area. Possible Actions needs to equal 'Bounce Handling'. . Click the 'Test Settings' button when you are done to test to see if it is correct.

    3. Go to 'Scheduler' in the Admin area and make sure that you add the necessary batch file/cronjob to your server to allow the scheduler to work (so you do not have to manually process the campaign emails to send out). You can also change the default time for when the Mass Email Campaigns go out by changing the 'Run Nightly Mass Email Campaigns' here.

Thanks for all your comments. It turns out that the day I did the setup there was a problem with the Sugar system that prevented settings from registering, hence my problems.
