    Default Email system settings help

I have installed the latest Windows version of Sugar CRM 4.5.g, every module works fine except the Email module. I used my existing Gmail account for testing and I followed exactly the steps provided in SugarWiki.

Setting up Sugar to download messages from your Gmail account
    From SugarCRM Wiki

In regards to setting up Sugar to download messages from your Gmail account, it will require some modifications on both ends.

    * In Gmail, log in and go to Settings > Forwarding and POP. Once there, you will need to enable POP access.

    * Once that is established, you can set up your Gmail account in Sugar.

Note: Gmail does use SSL so make sure that the SSL box is checked.

    * POP3 as the format using port 995
    * The POP mail address should be pop.gmail.com
    * The user ID should be your full Gmail address

However, when I finished the Inbound Email Settings and click the test setting button, a error message

'[CLOSED] IMAP connection broken (server response)
Please check your settings and try again.'

always appears. I have checked the Use SSL box and tried both IMAP and POP, but same error message is returned, can anybody tell me what is going wrong with my settings, or the problem is caused by other factors such as Apache or php settings?

    Any suggestions are appreciated!!

I used my Gmail for testing a few months back as well. I don't recall what the exact error I received was but I do remember that I got an error whenever I tried to check mail or even test from Sugar while I was still logged into Gmail. In other words; make sure you're logged out of Gmail before checking mail with Sugar.

Thanks for JWO112's advice, I have logged out of Gmail, and gave another try. However, the same problem still exists. By the way, I set the SSL port to 444 during installation, because the default 443 is not available, did this setting cause the problem?

My finding when comparing versions is that POP3 email works OK in 4.5.1e but is broken in 4.5.1g/h and in 5.0.0RC.

People keep telling me this cannot be true but after several days being convinced by these arguments, and repeating the installation and re-install process many times, I decided I was correct. We are now settled on 4.5.1e, mainly because any amount of effort I would have had to investigate the clear bugs in later versions, was consumed trying to prove that we were not experiencing a bug.

I am not certain about the status of IMAP support. This might give a path forward. Sadly, won't help us as Google does not support IMAP across all it's offerings.
    Cheers,

    Ant

So I have upgraded to 5.0 GA.
My email sees the new email using an imap connection.
But the email keeps trying to "load" and never loads.

Hope this helps someone see whats up.

I use a zimbra email server on the the same network.

I am also having problems with the POP3 settings. My inbouind emails try to open but just continue to load for a couple of minutes, but never complete.

Outbound smtp seems to work good.

Has anyone setup a working POP3 mail account in Version 5.0.

    Please advise.

Well you will just have to accept that the new email system of 5.0 is a mess. I wish there was a way to go back to 4.5.1e but I've not found it yet. That's the bad news... we all have to put up with this broken 5.0 email system.

The good news is that I'm sure the senior developers know the issues and are working on it so I expect to see 5.0.1 any day now.

I feel like an idiot for having upgraded from a stable 4.5.1e to 5.0CE, but I'm sure I'm not alone in that feeling.
