Email Template doesn't fill in fields

I started playing around with email templates in Sugar CRM 5.0.0e and have fields such as the contact's first name $contact_first_name. When I send the email to the person, the name is not showing. I've tried with other fields also. I'm using the community version of Sugar.

Can you check the source code to see if it's entering funny characters in the $contact_first_name like line breaks, etc? I've had that happen before. Just clean that up and save and it should work again.

Thanks, I'll check but I'm pretty sure that isn't the problem. If it were, I would probably get emails with something rather than nothing for the names. Instead I would probably get $last_name or something emailed.

I have the same problem, this seems related to the way the information is retrieved, (based on email address?)
