Emails only sending back to self

This just started this morning...
When I try sending an email to someone, it appears to send normally. Then I check for new mail and there it is in my inbox. It never reaches the addressee.

I noticed this happened to someone else last month but there were no replies. He said it just fixed itself. Mine has not yet fixed itself.

I have tried repairing the database, and going through all the admin repair items with no luck.

Ideas?

I am having a hard time coming up with a possible scenario where Sugar could cause this.

If there was a problem attempting to send the message, one of two things should have happened:

1. The e-mail message would have bounced back to you, in which case, the message you got would have indicated something to the effect. Give you didn't describe the message you got as a bounce back, I am assuming this is not happening.

2. There was a problem when attempting to send the message to the server in which case, the server would have returned an error message and the message would not have gone anywhere. This scenario doesn't seem to match what you are describing either.

Given the above, I don't see how this could be the result of something you did within Sugar or the code in Sugar. The fact it fixed itself before is a good indicator of that too.

I suppose you could have inadvertently set the "TO" address to be your own, but then again, you should be able to easily spot that from the message that you received. Not sure what else to tell you other than provide more details. There might be some gem that tells us more about what might be happening.

Hi Angel,

I'm really stumped. My emails work fine if I send through my webmail interface, so I can only assume that it's the sugar platform that's doing this.

The returned emails have no error messages attached. They just appear as if I sent myself an email.

I've double checked all the email settings, and they appear correct. I've switched between SMTP and "sendmail" options without effect.

It's like when the mail is sent, the Sugar program substitutes the sending email address for the one intended.

Would doing a complete overlay of files on the server be risky?

By the way, that was someone on another string that was running across the same problem last month. His problem magically self healed.

Well... it happened to me... Sugar self healed. It's working this a.m.

I would leave that as the last and final option, as you might end up causing a number of other issues in other areas through this action and possibly not affect the original problem.

One thing you might consider doing is creating a separate, completely clean installation of the same version you run in production. Next time the problem appears, switch over to the clean system and see if the problem appears there as well.
