Empty Custom Fields in Employees

Hello there,

using sugarcrm v. 4.2.1c on a lamp system, I have experienced the following problem:
After adding a "text area" custom field in my employees "details" and "edit" view, I tried to add some data into these fields, but no data is shown to me when I save it. As i look in my edit custom fields area, the type of the custom field isnt text area anymore its varchar or just text, but shown as a text area field both with a max char amount of 50.
I have tried it 3 times till now but nothing ever worked.

has anyone experienced a similar problem till now?

Problem is still existing, really no one who has an idea?
