ERROR 500 - Internal Server Error! after upgrade

i there

i have a linux box. two folder a dev and a live.
The moment when i try to upgrade the dev site. after step 2 i get ERROR 500 - Internal Server Error!.
on the whole site
http://example/dev.

when i cp -rf live dev . then do the whole chown,chgrp etc again then it works fine again.

i then go in and change the config to show to the coreect db.

when i try to upgrade again the same happens.

Please help!???!!

Do you have any .htaccess files in live that are specific to that environment?

nope.
we use selinux

INTERNAL SERVER ERROR can be related to php error.
Have a look at the error log of apache.
Hopefully you will find some error message into tail of such file.
