Error message during upgrade from 4.2.1 -> 4.5b

I am running 4.2.1 on localhost and got the following error message during upgrade from 4.2.1 to 4.5.0b

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: sugararraymerge() in D:\websites\sugarcrm-mf\modules\UpgradeWizard\Menu.php on line 35

Have tried to install a clean 4.2.1 and keep the old Mysql database but got the same error message.

Any chance that I can import old data from 4.2.1 to a clean copy of 4.5?

Not really cleanly. but you Might want to try installing a clean copy of your current version copy the data over and then upgrade the clean copy to the current version.

installed a clean copy of 4.2.1, import the mysql table, sugar runs fine, upgrade and got the same error message

What is your server configuration?

windows xp pro, IIS, mysql 4.1.16, php 4.4.1

the production environment is:
windows 2000, IIS, same version of mysql and php

not sure whether it's because of some chinese characters in the old database that caused the problem. not sure since the error message said that it's an undefined function...

The chinese charaters might be the problem. 4.5 added UTF-8 for internationalization. Check to see if php is configured with mbstirng first this is essential for SugarCRM 4.5 to operate correctly.

If that does not work try upgrading an fresh install of your current version then without your data and see if it will upgrade.

tried to upgrade a clean copy of 4.2.1 with no data and got the same error message. BTW, in 4.2.1 under the repair screen, i found the following error message near the bottom of the page:

Notice: Undefined index: LBL_REPAIR_TEAMS in D:\websites\sugarcrm-mf\modules\Administration\Upgrade.php on line 119

what is the native language for windows?

english windows xp pro with asian languages options installed.

BTW, i tried to reconfigure the mysql setting the language to latin1, erase everything, reboot pc and tried again..... and now it works...... problem solved but i really cannot replicate my problem before. A bit worrying for me as I am not confident to do the same upgrade on the production server which is a win2000 server machine.

I was having the same problems and finally realized it came down to a permissions issue. I don't know what directory exactly - as I was doing this test upgrade on a move from Linux to Windows server. In Windows "security" for the CRM directory, I simply added "full" rights to the IIS user and was then able to move forward. I'll study it a little closer before doing a production upgrde, but at least this got me toa 4.5c system to look at.
