Error running backup--unable to open archive

I'm getting this error when I try to run the Sugarcrm backup from the Administration panel backups page:

Error: PCLZIP_ERR_READ_OPEN_FAIL (-2) : Unable to open archive '/home/sugar/sugarcrm_backup.zip' in wb mode

I get the same error with just using 'sugarcrm_backup' as the backup file or if I don't specify a file name, just the directory.

I'm trying to save to /home/sugar, which is owned by me and has 766 permission, as does the sugarcrm_backup.zip file. So, as I understand it, anyone, including sugarcrm (whoever that is) should be able to write to that file and do the backup.

What do I need to do? I thought there might be a sugarcrm user that I could give the write permissions to, but there doesn't seem to be.

I also tried changing ownership of /home/sugar to wwwrun:www, which is the "WWW Daemon Apache" but that got the same error message.
