Evaluating Sugar

I am about to start evaluating Sugar. All I really need at this stage is a single user system to keep track of potential customers, add in contact details as I find them, and run small email campaigns.

I am considering using MS Access, but Sugar might be a better long term option.

Before I spend lots of time installing and learning Sugar, can I check if it is likely to be flexible enough?

Can it store custom details? For example, our customers are educational establishments, so the number of students is a useful detail to store. Can run queries to find all the schools with more than 1000 students, etc?

I am not too lazy to read the manual, but if I am on totally the wrong track it would save me quite a lot of time if someone could let me know. Hopefully Sugar will be suitable, it looks really good.

The querying can sometimes be a bit tricky, so you might need to do some advance planning, but in general, it is possible to do what you want.

Community Edition does not include any of that functionality, although, there are suitable add on modules for the vast majority of these needs available on sugarforge.org and sugarexchange.com
