Default exporting data of a module that uses fields from other modules

    Hi,

Sorry for the long subject :-)

I'm trying to upgrade sugarCRM from 4.5.1 to 5.X. I have a few custom modules and a strait forward upgrade fails with many bad SQL queries when using the new upgraded system.
I have tried to install a 5.x sugarCRM version and just export and import the data but I try to export the data from one of the custom modules I get IDs instead of data for fields that are being taken from a different module.
Is there a way to export the actual data instead of the IDs?

Any help would be great. I'm thinking of giving up.

    Thanks

    Gil

Do you think that if I'll export the missing modules, the IDs would be able to know what they need to show? In other words, if one field of a certain module, points at a field in a different module, will it show the actual data of the different module in the certain module?

I hope it was clear enough.

    Thanks

    Gil

No idea what exactly you are trying to say but personally I would start with the upgrade first, it will probably be easier to figure out why your modules break under 5.x than to export/import them into 5.x.

If your upgrade fails how are you moving the custom modules from the old system to the new system? Not the data just the code itself? What SQL errors show up in the upgraded system? Who built your custom modules and were they built using module builder or were they hand coded?

Thanks for your reply. As for the upgrade, I and some other guys here in my company tried to do the upgrade with no success. We all spent lots of time on that. In order for you to get to answers you have asked on the upgrade, please read, briefly, my following older posts here in the forum. This will give you a very good background at what I have been through when I tried to upgrade:
    http://www.sugarcrm.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54801

    http://www.sugarcrm.com/forums/showthread.php?t=55892

The sugar hier guys wants 5000 $ for the upgrade. As a open source company, it is against our policy :-)

For the import/export, I'm trying to build a look alike custom modules using the module builder. When I export the data from the old sugar, I get some of the data as text and some of the data as IDs. When I import the data, I still see the IDs as values as in the attached screenshot.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Gil

I think I have made some progress with this.
I have configured relationship between one module to another, created a new field of relate type and configured it to relate to the relation shiped module. When I'm importing the data, I configure the new field to get the ID of the appropriate field in the relation shiped module. For some reason it is still not working.

    Thanks

Just wanted to clear up what must be a typo, sugar didnt want $5000 it was the author of the custom module.

I am sure there are people in the classified forum that would do this for alot less. I would seriously give that a shot, it would be worth spending a little on this rather than spending a few more moths on it.

You are definitely right. It is not sugar guys but the spice hier (custome module) guys.
I don't think that my boss will allow someone to connect to our system and work in remote. Therefore it has to be someone in Israel. Maybe it is better if someone will help my bring up a proper PHP debug environment. I have tried a few but none of them worked.

    Thanks for the advice

    Gil

Just make a backup of your system and then truncate all the tables that have data in them (Contacts, Accounts, etc.) and then send that to someone, they should be able to fix it from there without exposing your data.
