Extending Contacts to include Children

Hi.

I have SugarCRM OpenSource 4.5.1e. How can I add a feature that will allow users to add children and spouse to contacts? I found a thread here that mentioned creating a relationship between two seperate contacts (Father, Son, Mother, etc), The the thread didn't contain how to do this so could someone help, point me in the right direction.

I downloaded Version 4.5.1e complete install, inculding MySQL, APache and I have XP Pro machine

Hi,

there are a couple of ways to do this. As the thread suggested you can get a complex spider web of contacts inter-related. (not suggested unless you realy know what you are doing!)
2. Add custom fields to the contact editview and detail view and wala there they are. (Doesn't really handle showing the other spousal connection though.)
3. Create a dashlet called children linking to the contact or contacts. This requires building a module. I'm starting to work on this. for a requirement I have. Any interest?
