Default Extremely slow - What can I do to speed things up?

    Specs:

    P4 2.4GHz
    1GB Memory
    Sugar OS 4.5.1G (Build 1003)

We have ten's of thousands of leads, scheduled calls, etc inside of the database. I have noticed, over the past year or so that it speed of loading pages has decreased significantly.

At time I can get a .9 response time (which is annoyingly too long if you ask me) and then sometimes it comes in at 4.06 seconds when clicking on a tab such as "leads" with only showing 100 leads.

My question is two. One: Is there any feature I can run, such as reconcile older leads/contacts so that it is searchable but moves it to a different database or section of the database so that the queries don't take as long?

Question Two: Is it possible, with upgraded hardware, to have a response time under a half a second on everything, even with the database setup still the same way it is? Such as going from P4 to Intel i7 and from 1GB to 8GB memory?

We waste way too much time waiting for pages to populate when we only need to grab a little piece of information.

Personal experience, after upgrading the server (very alike what you have and what you want to buy) it became much faster.
    Regards,

    SugarCRM CE v.5.2.0c
    Windows platform
    MySQL v.5.0.37
    phpMyAdmin - 2.11.2.2

Arent there like reconciliation tools or anything though that help the database significantly for "older" information.

Why are you still running an outdated old Sugar version? Any special reason? The latest release has Smarty and smart php caching, a big improvement. What platform are you on? Are you using innodb on the database server? Which server software are you running?

I just went from 1GB to 2GB of RAM and noticed a huge improvement! I too have a large database as well, some tables with over 40,000 rows each. When I had only 1 GB it was slow and the the mySQL server seemed to almost choke on me from time to time. I am willing to bet when you up the ram you will see an improvement. I would venture a guess that moving past a P4 would help as well. Let us know how it works out for you. I for one am interested to see the results.

I wasn't aware there was an upgrade from the version that I am running. I thought that it was legacy enough that there isnt a smooth transition to the new versions. If that will help, I will definitely be interested in trying!

There definitely is an upgrade path, it's going to be 2 upgrades however.

If you haven't made any core hacks it should be quite a smooth process, but test on a development environment first of course

The only changes we've made to SugarCRM is some custom field lists and the field views. I don't believe any PHP files were edited or changed througout the process. We simply just changed fields and views from within the admin section of SugarCRM.

With that being said, you are not considering those changes "core hacks" right but rather core hacks are when actual PHP files are changed?

Is it also possible to just install the latest SugarCRM version and then mysql dump the old SugarCRM database and put into the "new" SugarCRM database?

I want significantly faster responses, but also want to retain data integrity.

This spec is for your server? or the clients?

There's a lot of things that might be slowing your application down. Is there any other application running than SugarCRM? what's your SO? Are you running Sugar on any beta software (PHP, MySQL or your webserver)? What's the version of your 'Sugar plataform' (SugarCRM, PHP, MySQL, web server, OS, etc.)?
Although I really think you should upgrade your server. Or even host your CRM on specialized cloud servers.
