Force sugar to shoot email to assignee on creation of new Lead or Account?

As-is, although email logins are set up correctly and the tests work for both outbound smtp and inbound imap emails, INBOUND emails are not shot to the assigned party on creating/reassigning a lead or account. I am familiar with the email template system if that's the solution. I thought throwing these emails was sugar's default behavior?

There are no errors in sugarcrm.log.

Please assist, this severely hampers workflow.

EDIT: I'm aware this is usually an issue with cron/scheduling. I have all the precursor stuff for the scheduler installed, but if there's something more that needs to be done, this may be the issue.

I am a bit confused about the topic at hand as you are mixing up two different subjects.

As you've correctly stated, Sugar does have the ability to automatically send an email to the user that a record has been assigned to, assuming:

1. System email settings have been defined under Admin > Email Settings
2. The option to send notifications is enabled under Admin > System Settings
3. The user hasn't turned off the the receipt of notifications within their preferences
and
4. The user in question has a valid email address defined as part of their user definition

Are you saying all of the above are true and it is not sending? Or that you are having problem receiving email through Sugar (including the notifications)? Please elaborate.

Receiving email through sugar's own email system (the email tab) isn't a concern, I don't use that feature. The issue is purely that no email is shot after lead/account assignment.

1. Inbound/outbound email settings are all correctly configured. The tests work and no errors are thrown in the log.
2. There isn't any option regarding notification or emails under Admin > System Settings other than the "mail merge" feature, which I don't think is what I'm looking for.
3. Where is this "receipt of notifications" option in user preferences? We went through a 5.0 to 6.1 upgrade, so other than that, no user for which incoming mail worked originally has changed their preferences.

and yeah, email addresses are valid.

Sorry about that. Mixed things up in my head regarding #2. It is under Admin > Email Settings, labelled "Assignment Notifications"

With regards to #3, take a look at a record for one of your users and you'll see there is an option within their properties labelled "Notify on Assignment"

Ah, there it is. Yeah, that's checked, but no email is shot still when I assign something to myself. I noticed in that email menu section you showed me a checkbox option which stops sugar from trying to send the email from that person's email address.. which is just what I want, and it's set properly now, but still no go.

Who are you logged in as when you assign that record to yourself?

It would only send it if a user other yourself is logged in. i.e. If you are logged in as Angel and assign it to Mike.

Is there any way you know of to make it fire emails even on assigning yourself to something? A user here seems to think that used to be a possibility in the past.

I don't recall it ever doing that and I've worked with it since the 3.0 days, but there is always room for error on my part.
