Question Fresh install, old database, only custom fields not working

We are stuck on version 5.0.0 until we can upgrade our server to PHP 5 etc.

Our Leads module developed a problem that could not be diagnosed or fixed, so I installed the software in another folder and pointed it at the original database. The version we are using does not have an "export customisations" option, so I copied across the contents of the /custom, /modules and /data directories to the new installation - but not for the Leads module as I didn't want to copy across the problem to the new version.

So far so good - our custom layouts are all there, complete with our custom fields on layouts, search etc. Except that the contents of custom fields do not display, and we cannot save anything we put into a custom field. Non custom fields display contents, can be edited etc.

The quirk is that custom fields in the leads module DO work - so it seems this is related to the fact that I didn't transfer anything relating to leads in /custom, /modules /data - but I don't know what that might be.

I have done all the usual things in admin-> repair, rebuilds etc to no avail. Permissions and ownerships are all checked.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    Stewart

Try removing one of the custom fields from the editview layout, save & deploy, re-insert it and then save & deploy again. Once that's done, modify that field on a record and see if it retains the value.

Also take a look at your sugarcrm.log file for further clues.
