garbled characters

Hi,

I use Sugar CRM 4.5.0 on a Japanese OS and of course need to enter contact names in Japanese Kanji characters. But the problem is that while entering the Japanese names, the characters are shown as question marks! Any ideas how I can get around this problem, 'cause if I'm not able to solve it, my boss will kick me for upgrading to the latest version. This problem was not there in version 4.2.1. Any help would not just save my job but also be greatly appreciated.

Please let me know how you installed 4.5.0 (fresh install or upgrade install) and your server configuration like Apache, MySQL, PHP, and settings in php.ini or my.cnf.

4.5.0 should work perfect with Japanese characters as shown here.

ok, I just managed to fix the problem... it seems that the database encoding was set to Latin1, because of which Japanese characters were getting garbled. I have now set it to UTF8 and the data is being displayed properly. Simple issue but took some time to locate the cause. Thanks anyway!
