Generating a lead ID for custom import

Hi all,

I'm currently creating a file to import leads for me (functions a bit differently from the included software). I've got everything set up properly, the only thing I need to know is how to generate a unique lead ID (the "id" field in the leads and leads_cstm tables). I've looked through about 10 of the hundreds of files in the system and I don't know where to find it. Can someone point me in the right direction, or tell me how to hash the info properly to arrive at that string? It's appreciated, thanks.
