Default Gmail IMAP redownloads all messages on every check (and too many of them)

I have the mail module set up to monitor only one folder from my Gmail account (connected by IMAP). That folder has about 30 messages in it, yet everytime I click check email I get a dialog that says "Dowloaded xxx of 8933 emails".

First why is it downloading all of the emails every time I hit check mail?

And second why are there 8933 if I am only monitoring a folder that has about 30 messages in it?

Once it finishes (after about 30+min) I only see the 30 messages in my folder.

Any ideas on how to speed this up?

    Thanks,
    Ben

Nope, I never resolved it, and there was no help to found here so I moved onto another CRM.
