    Default Handler Application - Attachments

    Hi,

Strange problem: Ubuntu 8.04 with all updates, FF2/3 , Sugar (5.0f or 5.1rc, CE and ENT), tested on two Sugar server application and one strictly local one and with two machines.

I upload a file as attachment to a note. When I try to open the file again I get the following message:

/tmp/xxx_Cases.ods could not be opened, because the associated helper application does not exist. Change the association in your preferences.

This is an example, it happens with all known file types. I read tons about this issue but nothing compares really with the one I have.

    1. Application is installed (oo2.4.1)
    2. FF recognizes the file type correctly (I checked & rebuilt mimetypes.rdf just in case) and chooses the correct application
    3. Under Win it works with F3
    4. Other (or even the same) files can be opened with other websites and the same configuration.
    5. It's the same even for file types that the Ubuntu/Gnome apps themselves could open (document viewer, archive)
    6. If I change the association when the FF dialog opens (open or save) and I choose the application explicitly the file opens without any problems (scalc or swriter in the case of oo docs).
    7. On a local LAMP installation I could trace it back to a point where FF says that it couldn't download the file (although it's there). Means first the message above appears and then the download window doesn't close and it says download failed.
    8. It doesn't seem to be a permission problem because other files end up in the same /tmp directory with exactly the same permissions

Any help or at least a hint is greatly appreciated

Here is a short update: Just installed Opera in order to test the same scenario - works without problems. I also checked FF again with other websites and I haven't encountered one single problem. This is very strange...

    Same problem:
    Fedora 9 - 2.6.25.9-76.fc9.x86_64
    Firefox 3

I notiec that the popup has an interesting message

You have chosen to open LTC_App.pdf
    which is a: MP3 audio
    from: http://localhost

Notice that the attached file is in fact .pdf

I tried attaching several different file types. All show up in the popup as MP3 and all fail the same way

If it walks like a bug, ...

Good to know that I am not the only one. I have the same issue, FF showing always the same mime type. This I could get rid of by deleting the mimetypes.rdf. But it didn't change the overall situation.
I do not believe it is a Sugar bug but a combination of various factors. It seems as if the download hasn't completed yet and FF wants to open the file already. On this way the file is blocked and it seems as if that causes the (wrong) error message. That might be connected with Sugar's way of combining the final file from two different parts - one being the file (the data) itself and and the other being the file name.
The data is stored in cache/uploads, the file name is stored in the (in my case) notes table.
But as often - I am guessing...

wrt the download - it does complete and the file is sitting in /tmp. It can be successfully opened by clicking in nautilus.
It is a Sugar problem, some how, Sugar thinks the file is MP3
