Help about tpl?

Hi,

I have some questions abt tpl?

1) If i am to change how the label and fields are to be displayed, should i change directly in tpl files which is present in the cache folder for that module? If i change it should i do some steps to make the design changes permanent like using repair option?. Should i do the changes in developer mode or not? What are the steps to be taken when making the changes in tpl files?
2) I have created subpanels that shows 'Activities' and 'history'. Instead of displaying the usual way one after the other, i want to display it side-by-side. how to do it?

Can someone explain it to me.Please it's urgent.

1. No, you should EDIT: -> NOT <- do that. Files in the cache get overwritten at times. The more proper way of creating a custom TPL file is to override the default view that uses the TPL you wish to customize, then point it to a custom version of the file. Check the forums and http://developer.sugarcrm.com for more info as there are some examples on the topic.

2. The problem with customizations to that area is that they involve changes to the core code. Nothing would prevent you from doing it, but when you upgrade, you'll have to manually merge in your changes or your modifications will be lost.
