Default HELP adding new field for Targetes (plus import)

    Hi,

I'm new to SugarCRM and I am trialing the open source version for possible future use by our company.
We donwloaded a VM with SugarCRM installed on it.

I am trying to figure out how to import a CSV file containing contacts (targets) for use in campaigns.
When I use the Campaigns--> Import Targets module I can upload the file and I get to the stage where I can map my CSV fileds to the SugarCRM DB fields ( Import Step 3: Confirm Fields and Import ).

I have a couple of fields in my CSV file that do not have a corresponding filed that already exists in sugar.
These fields are custom to our internal database.

How do I add these custom fields to the Sugar DB so I can properly map my CSV file with Sugar?
I tried in the admin section in the Studio but whatever I do I can't seem to have the new field(s) showing in the import target map list.

    Please help.

    Thank You

P.S. our sugar version is SugarCRM Open Source Appliance version 4.2.1b
Runing on a RED HAT Virtual Machine we downloaded from the Sugar website.

I have had the same problem in the past, and maybe this will work for you. However, I use sugar on a dedicated linux box, so you may want to investigate possible vm issues if this isn't the problem.
When you create your new fields, ensure that you are putting them in the right module. Many modules have similar fields and can look the same if you don't take extra care. I will bet that your fields are there, but they are assigned to a different module's data set. Try importing from another module. All the other modules if necessary. Each one has its own set of fields. If your custom fields show up in one of the import wizards, thats the problem and you just need to create the fields again for the appropriate module. If not, then your fields probably haven't been saved at all, and this may be a vm issue. I know almost nothing about how vm stores custom data, but hopefully your problem is the one I detailed. It happened to me about 12 times before I learned my lesson. Let me know if it works.
    Regards,
    Richard
