Help! - Supanels disappeared

I've been playing with my vardefs, trying to get a subpanel of a custom module to display. Trouble is, I've been working on my production environment, because I thought I wasn't doing anything that could possibly harm the system (famous last words).

What files do I need to replace to ensure that the Accounts module subpanels are intact.

I solved my immediate problem by deleting:
custom/modules/Accounts/Ext/Layoutdefs/layoutdefs.ext.php
custom/modules/Accounts/Ext/Vardefs/vardefs.ext.php

which are the files I created while trying to display the subpanel of my new custom module by following the steps outlined in the Wiki. Am I missing something? Should I be adding the rest of the subpanel definitions into these files?

Again, any help is much appreciated!

OK, so I guess I wasn't supposed to edit:
custom/modules/Accounts/Ext/Vardefs/vardefs.ext.php

it was supposed to be:
custom/Extension/modules/Accounts/Ext/Vardefs
