Help with Target List creation?

I'm not sure how to populate target lists effectively, and was wondering if anybody could help...

We sell software to schools. Account detail is kept in the account section (number of pupils, license expiry, which software they license from us). We'd like to target campaigns based on some of these details, however, I can't find a way to target contacts linked to accounts I want to target. Any ideas how to do this?

Also, we've recently launched a new product, and have received positive responses from some of our accounts, and so created opportunities for these accounts. Now we want to follow up these opportunities with emails, but can't figure out how to email the contacts associated with the accounts associated with the opportunities.

Am I doing it right, am I missing something, anybody?

one month later.. now I´m having the same question. It's quite hard to fill the Target Lists manually. Do you have a solution in the meantime?

Hi,

Sugar PRO does it nicely through reports. For CE there is no real good solution except to do it through the backdoor (means through a fairly simple "insert into" statement). If you need the syntax I can have a look, I may still have the query somewhere.

I currently have to accept the nuisance, that this function is only available for 'Paying People'
Mybe the hard way via sql-script is the only way for CE-Users.

You may want to check the power prospecting thing but I'm not sure whether it's maintained still.

re. the paying crowd: somebody has to pay something because not even our beloved Sugarbabies can live forever on VC money. But compared to others I think it's reasonably balanced.
